In a rare and exciting collaboration, @chef_hitchcock, Australian Chef of the Year 2023 and Head Chef of @the_spirithouse, will step into the kitchen alongside Geoff Abel, Head Chef of the acclaimed The Long Apron.

Together, they will present a 7-course collaborative menu that celebrates innovation and artistry on the plate, blending their unique styles to reimagine French-inspired cuisine with a modern twist.

Settle in for an evening of long table dining, expertly paired wines, and an intimate, front-row seat to witness two of Australia’s finest culinary talents as they create something truly unforgettable.

Meet Geoff Abel, our Head Chef at @thelongapron and a true hinterland local. Starting as a kitchen hand at 15, his culinary journey took him from New Zealand to some of Australia’s finest restaurants.

He believes in letting quality ingredients shine: "When you have great ingredients, you don’t need to do much—just treat the produce with respect and don’t overcomplicate things."

His passion for from-scratch cooking and strong relationships with local producers ensure every dish reflects this philosophy. Living just minutes away from the restaurant with his family of six, he truly lives and breathes the #sunshinecoasthinterland. Last Sunday, Spicers Clovelly Estate was one of two retreats to host our annual collaborative event, this year titled 'Chefs on the Range'. It was a celebration of the best of Spicers dining with six of our Queensland chefs.

These special events allows our chefs to connect, inspire one another, and showcase their distinctive cooking styles. At Spicers Clovelly Estate, Head Chef Geoff Abel delivered a stunning menu, featuring dishes such as Peachester lamb with Paris gnocchi and canapés like compressed watermelon with cured kingfish, to name a few.

The menu was paired with exquisite French red wines provided by Joval Wines. The day concluded with a beautiful dessert prepared by Executive Chef Gareth Newburn of @thepeak.restaurant, followed by nostalgic fireside s’mores—a fitting finale to this unforgettable culinary event.
